We are excited to announce our Gold medal win at the 2018 Canadian Brewing Awards this past weekend for our Winter Seasonal Stout. With hundreds of entrants from across the country, only 55 Gold medals are given out at the CBA’s and we are honoured to have taken home one of them. Director of Partnerships & Events, Buffy Steringa and Territory Sales Manager and ‘Society of Beer Drinking Ladies’ co-founder Erica Campbell were on-hand in Halifax to accept the Gold award.
Originally released as the Ides of November, the beer was so popular that it was re-brewed for the entire winter season. The original recipe was developed by Henderson’s Lead Brewer James Turco who brewed each batch of the beer, including the gold medal winner. “This has long been a favourite of mine to brew at home, and I was really happy with the versions that Mark (Benzaquen) and I tweaked for the big system at the brewery”.
The beer style, an Export Stout, was originally brewed to celebrate the contribution that Caribbean ex-pats have made to the landscape of Toronto. Sold only at the brewery, it was offered in both a regularly carbonated version, as well as on Nitro. To celebrate the Gold win, we’ve released a small cache now for sale in the tap room on Sterling.
