Ides of February – New England IPA -Henderson Cup | 8% abv | 650 ml bottle – $8.95 – Limited to 1377 bottles
This beer was created and brewed as a collaboration between Henderson and the winner of the Henderson Cup, Mike Vandervoort.
Style: New England style Double IPA
OG: 19.5 Plato
Malts: Carafoam, Oats, two kinds of crystal
Hops: Amarillo, Citra, Mosaic – heavy whirlpool addition and dry hopped
Yeast: Vermont Ale Yeast
Aroma: Hop aroma with pine, lemon, grapefruit, and resin (dank) notes. Hint of bread dough in the background.
Appearance: Golden colour with slight orange hue. Cloudy-to-hazy (maybe not hazy enough? Its definitely not clear) with a stiff, long-lasting white head.
Taste: Hop flavour in the foreground with fruity, citrus rind, pine, and resinous notes. Slight cereal note of crackers, bread. Hop bitterness present on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-high body with a creamy, pillow-y mouthfeel that is surprisingly refreshing.
Overall Impression: An extremely hop forward American IPA focused on hop flavour and aroma over bitterness, with a big, pillow-y body and hazy appearance.
